MAC Craving Lipstick Review

After Lily Pebbles featured this in one of her posts, I immediately went to MAC and purchased this shade.  I just can't resist a reason to buy a new MAC lipstick :)

It's a gorgeous reddy-plummy shade, which is probably more of a Fall/Winter shade, but I don't care, I'm going to wear it in the Spring anyway!

MAC describes the shade as a 'Burst of Plum', which I personally disagree with.  Although the plum is apparent, I would consider it to be more red than plum.  Craving also has sparkles in it, which can't be felt on the lips, but add to the overall look of the lips.

Craving is an Amplified Creme Finish, which basically means that it has really great pigmentation, but it also has a creamy consistency, which makes it easy to apply and feels really hydrating on the lips.  However, due to the creaminess of the lipstick, it suffers more in the longevity department, though not by a lot.  I would put this at about the 4-hour mark without eating or drinking, which is definitely not bad in my books considering the hydration you get.

I think this shade would look particularly nice on any skin tone, whether as a statement lip or just for going to town (but that could just be me, I go grocery shopping in a full-on red lip, to each her own!).

Longevity: 3/5
Packaging: 4/5
Application: 4.5/5
Texture: 5/5
Pigmentation: 5/5
Value For Money: 4/5
Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask

In the Winter, my skin became quite dull and dry (like so many others' do), so I look for any opportunity to add moisture to it.  One mask I'm really fond of is the Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask ($23).

It applies like a moisturizer, but thicker and doesn't initially sink into your skin.  As the name suggests, you need about 10 minutes to let this sink into your skin and let it drink in the moisture.

I really like Origins products because they're made of good, healthy things that I know won't hurt or damage my skin.

I also find that this is a really nice mask for rounding up a mask treatment.  What I mean by that is that I don't generally use this on its own (only when my skin is feeling particularly dry), but right after another mask.

I use in two combinations: after I use the Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque (see review here), and the REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask (see review here) (à la Viviannadoesmakeup); or after I use the Origins Clear Improvement  Mask.  I use it in these combinations as both rounds of mask treatments consist of a deep cleansing/pore-cleaning masks that make your skin work, so I think adding moisture to your skin afterwards is really important and healthy for it, as well.

This mask has a really gorgeous scent (though it's natural, of course) and I love the feeling my skin has after I take this off, your skin feels very soft and supple and moisturized!  It's a really gorgeous mask, so if you're thinking about getting it, I definitely would!

LUSH Imogen Rose Solid Perfume Review

I went into LUSH for the first time in May 2012, while I was in Glasgow, Scotland with my Mom, as the first stop of our 4-week trip through the UK.  I had heard a lot about LUSH from bloggers and Youtubers, but the closest one to where I lived in the US was a 4-hour drive, so I was really excited when I went in for the first time.  The people who work at the LUSH in Glasgow are really nice, and extremely helpful.  One woman gave us a tour of all the products that LUSH has to offer, just so we could get acquainted with the store!

I left that store with a solid perfume, in the scent Imogen Rose (£10/$15.95).  It is the exact smell of roses, it's as if LUSH crushed up a rose and put it in perfume form, it's impeccable.  I find that it also lasts for quite a long time, probably around the 6-7 hour mark.  It's tinted pink, so if I wanted to, I could even use it as a cream blush (as I'm very fair) and just radiate the smell of roses, but I haven't tried that yet!  It's very strongly scented, so a little goes a long way!

Here's what LUSH says about it:

DELICATE AND ROMANTIC

This one is a token of love from a new father to his daughter. LUSH Perfumer Simon invented this scent for his then one-year-old daughter, Imogen Rose. When trying to capture the real beauty of the scent of roses, many perfumers try to use cheaper, synthetic versions. But there is absolutely nothing like the real thing. Try ours and see what a difference using real rose oil and rose absolute makes.  Simon also added a hint of baby powder to soften this one up, and make it smell fresh and sweet on the skin
My solid perfume has been very well loved (as you can see by the picture), but I love wearing this scent as it reminds me of my time in the UK!  I would definitely recommend this perfume, and the solid perfumes in general.  They have a really wide variety of scents so there's something for everyone and you can't beat the price!

A Massive London Haul

I went to London last weekend and - well, I did some shopping.

If you can believe it, I actually was restraining myself throughout the trip - but, I still managed to buy a ton of stuff.  Oh, well...

I got a couple new brushes: the EcoTools Flat Eyeliner Brush, the EcoTools Tapered Blush Brush, and a Tangle Teezer.  Boots was having a buy one get one half off deal with EcoTools brushes, so I opted for the Flat Eyeliner Brush (£5.49) mainly because I wanted to get half off something, but also because I thought it would be good for pushing eyeshadow into the lower lash line.  I also got the Tapered Blush Brush (£7.99) because who doesn't need another blush brush?  I also decided to get the Tangle Teezer (£10.99) because I've heard so much hype around and wanted to try it for myself! So far so good on the Tangle Teezer front :)

I also got one piece of skincare while I was in London: the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate (£36).  I've heard a lot about it recently, and I'm running low on my facial oil, so I thought I would try it out!

Moving on to make-up - I got a lot.  I decided to get a tinted moisturizer as I've never tried one before and since Spring/Summer is coming up, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity.  I decided to get the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (£33) as I've heard so much about it.  I was matched to the Lightest Shade, Porcelain, and it's actually a really good match for me.  I tried it out today and I really like it so far!  I also picked up a new concealer, the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer in 52 (£7.50).  I've always sworn by the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, but I think this is even better!  It's not as cakey and it's more yellow-toned, so I absolutely adore it.

L-R: Pixi  Lash Line Ink Eyeliner, Rimmel Sable Brown Kohl Eyeliner, Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Liners in Taupe, Nude, and Bronze, and Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bad Bronze
L-R: Rimmel Bad Bronze, Rimmel Bronze, Nude, and Taupe, Rimmel Sable Brown, Pixi  Ink Eyeliner
I also got a boatload of eyeliners.  I decied to get the Pixi Lash Line Ink Eyeliner (£12) as I don't really like my L'Oreal Liquid Eyeliner because I find that the line is too big, and the Pixi one creates a really tiny line, so hopefully it'll be a winner! Also, Rimmel had a 3 for 2 going on, and I took advantage of it.  I got a new Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Pencil in Sable Brown (£2.99) and then three of the Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Liners in Bronze, Taupe, and Nude (£3.99 each).  I also decided to get the Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bad Bronze (£5.99).  I didn't get on too well with this the first time I tried it out, but I'm going to give it another shot!

I also went to Selfridges and did some shopping (always naughty).  I went to the Tom Ford Counter (bad decision) and picked up another one of the Brow Sculptors in Taupe (£32) as mine is starting to get low and I wasn't sure if it would make it to May (you can read my review on this product here)!  I didn't even swatch anything else at Tom Ford because I knew I would fall in love with everything!  Then I went to MAC (I just can't help myself) and I got the Paint Pot in Painterly (£14.50) because I thought it would be a good way to conceal any veins on my eyelids, plus I can use it for a base or on it's own - very exciting stuff here.

NARS Penny Lane and Topshop Head Over Heels Cream Blushers
Top to Bottom: NARS Penny Lane, Topshop Head Over Heels
I also went to NARS, which was very swoon-worthy.  I only let myself swatch two things and came out with one: NARS Cream Blush in Penny Lane (£21.50).  I haven't heard a ton about this blush, but I wanted to start getting into cream blushers and this looked like the perfect natural-blush color to start :)  I also went to Topshop and fell in love with the Cream Blush in Head Over Heels (£6), which is BRIGHT ORANGE, but I thought it would be something fun to add to the mix!

L-R: Estée Lauder Blushing Nude, Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer
I got one other blush on my trip: the Estée Lauder Pure Color Blush in Blushing Nude (£24).  I was in Duty Free at Heathrow and had about an hour to kill, so I went to MAC and I saw that they still had a display going for Stereo Rose, I asked the woman if they had it in stock and she said yes, I got really excited.  Then she told me it was actually out of stock, which is when I got disappointed.  I had already resigned myself to getting a new blush, so I went on a mission throughout Duty Free and found myself at the Estée Lauder Counter.  I've never owned anything from Estée Lauder before, but oh man are their blushers beautiful!  I had a hard time choosing one!  But I opted for Blushing Nude (which I got for £20, by the way), a gorgeous pinky-peachy-nude shade that looks stunning on the cheeks.  I also decided to get the famous Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in 51 (the chocolate bronzer) (£6.99) as I have heard a lot about it and I want to start expanding my bronzer collection.  I haven't tried it yet, but the bronzer alone is just cute to look at (as it looks like a chocolate bar)!

L-R: L'Oreal Glam Shine Stain Splash in Lolita, Rimmel  Apocalips in Celestial, and Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 500 Blush
L-R: Blush, Celestial, Lolita
Now to lips (always a favorite), I got three new lip products while in England, the first of which is the new L'Oreal Glam Shine Stain Splash in Lolita (£7.99). It's meant to be a dupe of the YSL Glossy Stains, but I'm not sure if it is or not as I've never tried the Glossy Stains.  However, the Glam Shine Stain that I have is really nice, decently pigmented and lasts a really long time.  It's not sticky, either!  Lolita is a browny-pink shade that looks great for everyday wear, so I'm really excited to use this.  I also got the Rimmel Apocolips in Celestial (£5.99) that everyone's going on about.  I haven't tried it yet, but I definitely have high expectations!  Finally, I decided to get the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 500 Blush (£26).  I don't know why I had to buy it, but I felt this need to try the Lip Maestros and Blush, a pinky-peach shade, looked like the perfect one for spring!

L-R: CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Boy, CHANEL Rouge Coco in 05 Mademoiselle, YSL Volupté Sheer Candy in 02 Dewy Papaya
I also got three new lip products in Duty Free in Frankfurt on my way to London (very naughty).  I decided to pick up the CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Boy (€24.50) as a gorgeous spring shade, the CHANEL Rouge Coco in 05 Mademoiselle (£24.50) as a natural-looking, everyday lipstick, and the YSL Sheer Candy Volupte in 02 Dewy Papaya (€26) for a peachy-tinted lip balm.  I've wanted all three of these for so long, so I'm really excited to test them out! (By the way, these are the prices I paid duty-free, I'm not sure what they are originally!)

L-R: Blueberry, Peach Melba
For my last make-up bits, I decided to pick up some Barry M Nail Paints.  I opted for one of the new Gelly M Shine Nail Paints in Blueberry (£2.99) (who can resist a good blue?) and then the classic Peach Melba (£2.99) as I shockingly don't own a peach colored nail polish, so I definitely needed to remedy that!

The last things I got in England are fragrance related.  I decided to finally get the Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 (£64 for 100ml).  I've been wanting this for a good six months, but I doubt it's available in Germany.  I wanted to just get the 30ml bottle, but they were totally sold out of that size at Liberty, so I just bit the bullet and splurged on the big one.  I really like it on me, I can't pinpoint exactly what it smells like, but it's slightly woody.  I also went to John Lewis and made my way to the NEOM Candles section.  I must've been at the stand for about 15 minutes smelling all of the candles and trying to decide which one I wanted!  I ended up going for the travel-size version of Refresh (£15), which is a really fresh, lemon scent that I think will be really nice for the Spring :)

As you can see, my trip to England was very successful!  I'm definitely going to have to take a break from spending for a while to make up for the damage that was done, though.  If you want to know what I did while I was in London, you can read my post about it here!

What I Did In London

Last week, I went to London for a long weekend.  This was my third time there and it did not fail to disappoint me.

London has got to be one of my favorite cities in the world, it's so hectic and crazy, but it's a gorgeous city, as well.  I only had two full days there, but I still managed to see a lot :)

I arrived in the late afternoon on Valentine's Day, so I didn't do too much beyond checking in to my hostel and going to Oxford Street to shop that night.  I will say that London was so much warmer than expected.  I brought my winter coat with me, expecting it to be really cold, but I was sweating with it on just by walking outside, so I had to go to Primark to buy a new jacket (I'm so prepared).

On Friday, I woke up early and went for a walk at Tower Bridge - which was completely devoid of tourists as the Tower of London hadn't opened yet, great call on my part, timing-wise!  Then, I went straight to Oxford Street to finish off the shopping that I wanted to get done in London (I wanted nothing to do with Oxford Street on a Saturday - pure terror).

Later I went to St. Paul's Cathedral and walked across the Millennium Bridge.

I went on to the British Museum afterwards (which is my favorite museum in London - fun fact for you).  I spent about 3 hours there, it's absolutely massive, I've been there three times and I always see something new when I'm there, it's fantastic!

Afterwards, I went to the theatre and saw War Horse.  I honestly didn't think it was that great, but it was okay and decent considering I paid about £15 for the seat.

The next day, I woke up early again and headed to Trafalgar Square and tried to be as big of a tourist as I possibly could - I succeeded.

Then I quickly walked over to Piccadilly Circus.

Then to China Town to continue my tourist-ness.

After that, I headed to Westminter Pier and took some pictures and then headed into the Houses of Parliament for a tour.  It was a really interesting tour and I learned a lot about the British Goverment System - highly recommend that if you're heading to London!

Then, I did the unthinkable and went to Oxford Street - on a Saturday afternoon.  Needless to say, I barely made it out alive.  After a quick stop to Selfridges, I went to Harrods to finish up the shopping for the trip and afterwards went to the Science Museum.

In the Materials Part of the Science Museum
I didn't really care for the Science Museum, to be honest.  I guess partially because it was packed to the brim with people, but also because it was just nowhere near as impressive as the Deutsches Museum in Munich, which is just the best.

Then I went for a massive walk through Hyde Park for a few hours.

That evening, I went to see Mamma Mia - which was absolutely superb!

Sadly, on Sunday I had to wake up early and head back to Germany.  It was a great trip and I was sad to go, but I'm going back in May for the last time of the year and I'm already excited!

What did you do this weekend?

See by Chloé EDP Review

While browsing my local Müller (kind of a Target/drugstore of Germany), I noticed a big display for the new Chloé perfume, so I decided to give it a sniff.  That was a bad decision.  I immediately fell in love with See by Chloé ($58/€45 for 30ml/1 oz.) and couldn't get it out of my mind for days on end.

I've never been the hugest fan of Chloé perfumes; I found Love, Chloé far too powdery and although I like the orginial Chloé, I've just never felt the need to go out and add it to my collection (though I got a sample of the original Chloé, so that could change in the near future), so I didn't think See by Chloé would be anything special.  Oh, was I wrong.

It's exactly what I look for in a perfume, it's floral, but not too sickly sweet, it has a fruity scent to it, but I don't feel like I just rubbed a strawberry on my wrists and called it good, it's a gorgeous mixture that works really well on my skin and best of all it LASTS.

It has the following notes: Jasmin, Ylang, Vanilla, Musk - which leaves me wondering where the fruit it, as it is describes as a 'floral fruity fragrance'.  Interesting...

Here's how Chloé describes the scent (these always make me laugh):

An addictive floral fruity fragrance, it captures the irresistible and playful personality of a young woman fully embracing life. The fusing top of juicy bergamot and apple translate her energy and her urban edginess. Her natural feminity is conveyed through a beautiful floral bouquet of jasmin and ylang that grows into a sexy veil of vanilla and addictive musks.

Ok, so I guess there's bergamot and apple notes in there, as well - they should probably say that in the notes section.

Now, I will say that this perfume doesn't make me feel like I'm a young woman fully embracing life or that even remotely have any urban edginess.  However, this is something that I feel works on me.  It lasts a good 8 hours, and doesn't turn powdery throughout the day (hate that), it just loses some of the fruit scent and has a bit more depth to the floral scent (perhaps where the musk comes in?).

It's not cheap, it'll cost you $58/€45 for a 30ml/1 oz. bottle, but I do think that this is something I will continue to love and will definitely be using up.  I also think this could work for any season.  It has the fruity, floral scent that works in Spring/Summer so well, but it also has the depth of the vanilla and musk that would make it a nice choice for the colder months, too.  Overall, I would definitely recommend you go out and try it for yourself!

MAC Twig Lipstick Review

Last September, while I was in England, I was just having one of those days, where everything seemed to have gone wrong for me.  I remember that was the day where parts of England had gotten a month's worth of rain in one day - it was pretty horrendous.  So, due to the tragedy of the day I was having, I did what any sane person would do in that sort of situation - I went shopping.

I found myself in MAC and I ended up getting the MAC Twig Lipstick ($15/£14).  I had been wanting it for a while and then seemed as good a time as any to buy it.

Once I returned back to Germany, it sat with my other lipsticks, unused an unloved.  At the beginning of the month, I spontaneously decided to use it and since then, I haven't really stopped.  It's what I deem a transition lipstick, and by that garbage phrasing, I basically mean that it's the perfect lipstick to wear for those two times of the year, when it's not exactly warm outside, but it's not that cold either.  Making it an ideal choice for months like February-March and September-October.

MAC describes the color as a 'soft muted brownish-pink', which I agree with, but I would say there is just a bit of berry in there, too.  This shade would be the perfect work-appropriate shade for anyone, but especially for those with darker skin tones (NC30+).  For those of us who are pale, this could also be a work-appropriate shade, but it could also be worn at night, too, which is why I love it.  I'm a huge fan of statement lips, and although this isn't exactly a statement lip color, it does still show them off a bit more than your average everyday lip color would.

Twig is a Satin finish, which is a finish I really love, as it has the longevity of a matte lipstick, but it glides on more easily and is more moisturizing than a matte finish.  This lipstick doesn't last all day, but it definitely lasts a good 6 hours or so (depending greatly on if I eat or drink something in those 6 hours, if so, I need to whack on a bit more as it does transfer).  Also, unlike with matte shades, lip liner is definitely not required with Satin finishes.  It's so easy to apply (though I wouldn't necessarily recommend the Satin finish to someone who has never used lipstick before, as it's still more difficult to work with than say a Lustre or a Creamsheen lipstick).

Overall, I highly recommend this shade.  If you're looking for a work-appropriate shade or just a new lipstick for this awkward weather stage this time of year always seems to land itself in, try Twig!

Longevity: 4.5/5
Packaging: 4/5
Application: 4/5
Texture: 5/5
Pigmentation: 4.5/5
Value For Money: 4/5
Overall Rating: 8.67/10

REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask

Every Sunday, I take an hour and give my skin some well-deserved love.  This always consists of a face mask.

I've heard a lot about the REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask ($55), almost all of which was rave reviews, so I needed to try it out for myself.  It doesn't come cheap, but it's something I really enjoy using.

It smells heavily of oranges, which is something I'm not averse to, but it's something to be aware of!  It also has a weird consistency, if you were to switch this with orange marmalade, I wouldn't be able to tell a difference based on texture and scent alone!

It's not a clay based mask, so it doesn't dry on your skin at all, but I usually leave it on for about 10-15 minutes.  I also really like to use this after the Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque (review here), as I find it adds some glow to my skin after such a deep clean.

Now, this is, in fact, a radiance mask, and let me tell you - it lives up to its name.  After letting this sit on your skin for 15 minutes, you are left with a gorgeous, natural glow that makes you look really healthy and beautiful.

It takes a bit of effort to remove, but nothing a washcloth or a muslin cloth can't handle!

Overall, I would highly recommend this product, it's pricey, but the glow is worth it!

NOTD: Sally Hansen Barracuda

I picked up Barracuda from SallyHansen after I saw Essiebutton post a picture of it on her instagram (seriously, anything she mentions is immediately purchased by me, it's an issue). I'm a major fan of the blue nail trend, so I was more than willing to fork over €8.95 for this beaut.

I will say that the bottle is deceiving in this instance, as it shows a gorgeous pastel/robin egg blue shade, but it's actually quite different on the nails.  It's much more of a bright, baby blue, very similar to Topshop Pool Party, making it a great choice for the warmer months.  Although it is a gorgeous shade, I was hoping to get more of a robin egg blue than the color that it ended up being, but I do like it, all the same.

The brush on this is like all Sally Hansen brushes - massive.  It's nice because it gets the smaller nails in one swipe, but it can be a bit messy if you haven't worked with brushes this size before.  You will also definitely need two coats with this one; one coat left my nails looking pretty streaking, but after the second coat, the color was really opaque and really blue.

I believe this is part of the spring collection from Sally Hansen, and I think I will be going back for more - there's a peach shade that is calling my name!

The MAC Attack Haul

Over the past few weeks, I walked into MAC more times than anyone ever needs to in their entire life.  I'm pretty sure all the MUAs at my local MAC know me as the make-up obsessed American that constantly walks in and swatches everything in store.  Of course, I can't leave MAC empty handed, that would just be wrong...

I'm pretty sure I was in MAC about 5 times over the past two weeks, so I accumulated quite a large amount of stuff in that time period, which makes me happy, but my bank account sad :( I like to deem this two week period as my 'MAC Attack', as I went absolutely crazy about everything MAC, I really couldn't be controlled.

Moving on to the products, I got 4 new lipsticks (yes, 4 - which is actually almost as many as I owned previously to these little excursions).  What can I say? I'm a lipstick fiend, always on the search for the perfect lipstick -- but hey, who isn't?

The first lipstick I got was Craving ($15/€19), which MAC describes as a Burst of Plum, but I think there's a bit of red in there, as well.  It's an Amplified Creme finish, so it's very pigmented, but quite moisturizing, too!  More of a winter shade, but after I saw Lily Pebbles post a FOTD with this, I had to have it (so easily influenced...).

The next lipstick, See Sheer, was also influenced by a FOTD post, but this time it was from Essiebutton.  Seriously, anytime she posts anything, I immediately have to go out and buy it, it's an issue.  This is described as a Grapefruit Pink, but I would consider it more of a coral color.

Next, I have Lady Bug, which MAC describes as a Yellow Tomato, whatever that means.  It's a slightly warm-toned red, but as it's a Lustre finish (as is See Sheer, by the way!), it's pretty sheer.  I think it would be a good beginner red shade, which is why I decided to get it, since it would be a good way of easing myself into the red lipstick family :)

The final lipstick I got was On Hold, which was a total spur of the moment purchase (but aren't those the best?).  MAC describes this as a Mid-tone Yellow Raspberry, which is pretty accurate, but I will say that this is a bright shade, though perfect for Spring/Summer.  It's a Creamsheen finish, so it's decently pigmented, but also quite hydrating on the lips!

Moving onto blush - I picked up two: Warm Soul and Pinch Me.

Warm Soul ($25/€25) is a Mineralize Blush. which was also a purchase inspired by Essiebutton.  This is described as a Mid tone beige with gold pearl, which is pretty accurate, I would call it more of a peach than a beige, though.  It has gorgeous shimmer running through it, which does translate to the skin, making highlighting unessential, which is something I love about this product, but it's something to beware of if you don't like shimmery blushes!  This was my first ever MAC blush and I'm completely falling in love with it :)

Pinch Me ($21/€23.50) is a Sheertone blush, which is meant to be the least pigmented of MAC blushes, I will say that it's definitely sheerer than any of my other blushes that I use on a day to day basis.  However, it looks super pigmented when the brush picks up the product, I'm talking full on super pink on the brush, but it doesn't really apply that heavily to the skin.  Even when I swatched it with my finger, my pointer finger looked like I dipped my finger pad in nail polish or something, but it came across quite subtly as I swatched it on my hand.  MAC describes it as a Medium dirty rose coral, which I would agree with.  It's a bit more rose than coral, in my opinion, but it works well with my fair skin tone.  I didn't do any research previous to buying this (bad move), but I found out this is generally loved by those with darker skin tones (mainly Indian women), so I was a bit nervous about it, but it does look quite nice on my NC15-20 skin.  I made sure to use a light hand when applying it, but it's definitely not too dark or clown-like on my face!

That's the end of this never-ending MAC haul! I can't believe how much I bought :/ Oh, well, I can honestly say there's not much else I want from MAC at the moment, so hopefully my bank account will be safe for now...
