Last year, I fell in love with the Burberry Beauty line. For those of you who read my blog on a more regular basis, you will already know this, as I constantly rave about the impeccable quality and the luxury of it, but I have yet to actually show why I think this brand is so stand-alone compared to other high end make-up brands.
Although I love Chanel and Dior, the Burberry Beauty line just has a special place in my heart, it's the first high-end make-up I've fallen in love with, and that becomes immediately clear when you look at the sheer amount of Burberry products I have in my collection (I don't even want to count them all).
I have 9 Eyeshadows: Trench, Gold Trench, Almond, Rosewood, Midnight Black, Midnight Brown, Pale Barley, Dark Sable, and Mulberry. They're my most used and my favorite eyeshadows and in my opinion, worth every penny of the hefty $29 price tag.
Although they're quite expensive, they're the best high-end eyeshadows I've tried, they're velvety to the touch (even softer than Urban Decay shadows), they're pigmented (don't be fooled by the name 'Sheer Eyeshadows'), and they smell amazing (a rosy, floral scent).
Each eyeshadow contains 2.5 grams of product (which works out to $11.60 per gram), whereas Chanel eyeshadow singles contain only 2 grams of product and cost $28.50 ($14.25 per gram), and MAC eyeshadows contain 1.5 grams of product and cost $15 in the pot and $12 in the pan ($10 and $8, respectively). So, if you do the math, the eyeshadows are actually a pretty good deal, being much cheaper than Chanel and only slightly more expensive than MAC.
Each eyeshadow comes in the most beautiful packaging I've ever seen - it comes with a black pouch imprinted with the Burberry Check (Spoiler Alert: if you don't like the Burberry Check, you're going to have some issues with the Burberry Beauty line), and is housed in a sleek gunmetal package (though it's actually plastic) that also features the Burberry Check. The lid on each shadow only opens to about a 95-100° angle, which some people have issues with, but doesn't bother me, and has a large mirror inside, as well. The eyeshadow itself is also imprinted with the Burberry Check and has a rosy/floral scent (as do all of their products). I find them highly pigmented and don't crease throughout the day. Now onto the colors!
Trench No. 02
This is my favorite eyeshadow from the entire line. Although some people might look past it without a second glance, it does everything I want it to. It looks matte in the pan, but upon closer inspection, there is a very miniscule amount of shimmer there, which makes it really versatile, as you can use it as highlight or as a lid color. I prefer to use this as an all over the lid color, in order to erase any veins on my eyelids for those days when I just don't want to wear eyeshadow. Seriously, if I can recommend one eyeshadow, it's this - those of us with pale skin can use it all over the lid and people with medium-dark skin tones can use it as a highlight, it's just perfect!
Gold Trench No. 04
This is probably my least used shade from the range, though I'm not sure why. It's a gorgeous, warm-toned light brown. It's quite similar to the second shade in the NARS Portobello Duo Eyeshadow (see review and swatches here), but that shade is matte, while this has some slight shimmer to it. I think this is also a vesatile shade as it can be worn in the crease for daytime looks, or all over the lid when you're going for more of a smokey eye.
Almond No. 06
This is also one of my favorite shades, as I like to use it with Trench for an everyday look. I usually use Trench all over the lid and as a highlight and then put Almond in the crease, which ends up looking really nice together. Almond is basically the cooler-toned version of Gold Trench. Like the other shades I've previously mentioned, this also has some slight shimmer, but it doesn't translate much to the lid. It's quite versatile, as well, as you can use it in the crease during the day or all over the lid as a base for something more dramatic!
Rosewood No. 09
This is probably one of the most unique shades I own from any line, it's a pinky-purpley taupe that has a more satin look, but still has some shimmer. Unlike most of the other shades that I own from Burberry, this is something I don't think could be duped. You could easily find MAC equivalents to most of these shades, but this is definitely a special shade. I think it would work amazingly on both cool and warm-toned people and this is definitely one of the more stunning shades from the range, definitely swatch it for yourself if you can! Otherwise, if you're contemplating getting this shade, just get it, you won't regret it!
Midnight Black No. 18
I bought this on a whim and it has definitely become my most used eyeshadow that I own. I use this every single day to line my upper lash line. It doesn't have fallout (nor do any of the eyeshadows, if you're wondering) and it is just a really opaque, matte black, something everyone needs in their collection. MAC Carbon is probably a dupe for this, and matte blacks are easy enough to find, but if you can afford it, definitely go for this shade, you won't regret it :)
Midnight Brown No. 21
This is actually the first Burberry product I ever bought, so this is what made me fall in love with the entire line (I want to say that I'm mad that happened, but it's just too beautiful...). It's a shimmery, medium-dark brown that I tend to use with a light hand all over my lid during the day or patted on more heavily at night. I think it's quite similar to MAC Mulch, but I don't own that shade, so I can't be sure. It's a gorgeous shade and one that I simply don't use enough - must rectify this...
Pale Barley No. 22
This is another gorgeous shade from the line (who am I kidding, they're all gorgeous!), a satin golden brown that you could wear in any situation and not look out of place. I wear this during the day, at night, and I never feel like my make-up is out of place for the situation when I'm wearing this. Plus, the shade is so neutral that it works well with whatever blush and lipstick you decide to go with (a problem that can happen with say - Rosewood, which I tend to use exclusively with a more purple lip).
Dark Sable No. 23
This came out as part of the Fall 2012 collection and I knew that I had to have it. It's a matte dark brown, which you could use in the crease or as a liner. Personally, I haven't used this much, as I haven't gotten the hang of it yet, but I do think it's a really nice color and I'm not upset I got it in the slightest. I believe this is also a part of the permanent line now.
Mulberry No. 24
This is a red-berry color, that looks absolutely stunning on the eye. I like to use this in the outer corner when I'm going for a heavier eye look along with Trench and Almond, and it's absolutely gorgeous. It's a satin with shimmer and along with Rosewood, I think this is one of the more unique shades that I own. I can't think of a MAC equivalent to this shade (though I'm sure there is one), as it seems like such a unique mix of berry and brown, which makes it both unusual, yet still wearable. This was also part of the Fall 2012 collection, but I believe it's part of the permanent line now.
Top to Bottom: Trench, Gold Trench, Almond, Rosewood, Midnight Black, Midnight Brown, Pale Barley, Dark Sable, Mulberry |
Overall, I can't recommend these eyeshadows enough. They're definitely the best investment I've made eyeshadow-wise and I couldn't live without them! If you can afford one, get it, you won't be disappointed.
I hope you found this helpful!
